University of Iowa Summer Program for Youth Who Stutter Or Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in an Inclusive, Nurturing Environment (UI-SHINE)

WHO: Youth ages 7-17 who stutter or are Deaf/hard of hearing. Enrollment may be limited to ensure active group participation and enriching experiences. Campers will be led by graduate student clinicians who will be supervised by licensed speech-language pathologists who specialize in stuttering and aural (re)habilitation.

WHEN: Monday 7/28/25 - Thursday 7/31/25, 9 am - 4 pm each day

WHERE: Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center

WHAT: Daily individual and group therapy experiences are designed to help campers explore self-advocacy and communication skills, build awareness of their own unique way of communicating, develop confidence in communicating and explaining their diagnosis, and connect with others who have similar challenges.

OVERNIGHT: Overnight option is available, if enough campers would like to stay overnight. Campers will stay in the University of Iowa dorms. Overnight option adds approximately $350 for three nights. If overnight cost is a barrier, please contact us.

COST: Through generous donations, our 2025 program is being offered at no cost for campers.
