CSD fosters active research programs in all major areas of speech and hearing sciences that drive new scientific information and concepts to the clinic and classroom
Research is a critical part of graduate education. Research directed by our faculty advances scientific knowledge in general and allows new facts and ideas to be brought to the classroom and clinic. Student research is encouraged at both the master's and the doctoral degree levels.
Productive research programs encompass all major areas of speech and hearing at the University of Iowa. Individual laboratories are active in Communication Sciences and Disorders for the study of auditory physiology, auditory rehabilitation, clinical experimental and medical audiology, language disorders and intervention, neurology of speech and language, psycholinguistics, stuttering, and laryngeal neurophysiology.
