CSD is home to active research programs in all major areas of speech and hearing science that drive exciting new concepts to the clinic and classroom.

CSD currently has 17 research faculty members with expertise in fields as diverse as audiogenomics, fluency, auditory physiology, and linguistic diversity, with a new hire in Speech-Language Pathology in Fall 2023.  

Our faculty collaborate with individuals from the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the Department of Neurosurgery, and the departments of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Computer Science, and the College of Public Health. Additionally, there are many innovative programs available to faculty from CSD, including the Development and Learning from Theory to Application (DeLTA) Center, the multidisciplinary Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), the Iowa Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program, and Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience
