CJ is a first-year PhD student, speech-language pathologist, and person who stutters from Culpeper, Virginia. CJ has worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist both in the school setting and acute care setting. He has clinical experience treating a wide range of communication disorders, including stuttering, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), language disorders, cognitive-communication disorders following brain injury, amongst others. He also has experience conducting modified barium swallow studies (MBSS). While at the schools, CJ served as the AAC Specialist supporting AAC evaluation and implementation across the school district. 

CJ’s research interests are deeply informed by his lived experience as a person who stutters. His work centers on understanding the subjective experience of stuttering, exploring the role of intersectionality, and advancing strengths-based approaches to speech-language therapy. He is particularly interested in approaches that foster confidence, self-acceptance, self-advocacy, and quality of life for people who stutter, while moving beyond an exclusive focus on fluency. Outside of academia and clinical practice, CJ enjoys art, horror movies, music, and spending time with his dog, Maggie Mae.
