Adrián Castillo-Allendes, PhD, MSc, SLP, is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa. He is also a Clinical Research Fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at University of Iowa Health Care. He earned his professional degree in Speech-Language Pathology and an MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile, and completed his PhD in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University as a Fulbright Scholar.

His research focuses on voice, swallowing, cough, and upper airway function, with particular interest in the physiological and biomechanical relationships across these systems and their clinical application. His work includes the development and evaluation of accessible approaches to voice assessment, the use of acoustic, endoscopic, and wearable sensing methods, and the study of occupational voice use.

Castillo-Allendes conducts his postdoctoral research under the mentorship of Eric Hunter, PhD, in the Voice Biomechanics and Acoustics Laboratory. His current work contributes to research on voice production and assessment, including an NIDCD-funded R01 examining approaches to vocal evaluation.
