Paul Abbas, Ph.D.
Paul Abbas, Ph.D., was a distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at the University of Iowa. He earned his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Abbas made significant contributions to auditory research, particularly in the field of cochlear implants and auditory physiology. His work has been widely recognized and respected in the scientific community. Beyond his research, he was a dedicated mentor and educator, inspiring many students and colleagues throughout his career. Dr. Abbas passed away on August 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of scientific excellence and mentorship.

The family has asked that memorial contributions to be made to support the Paul Abbas Scholarship Fund at the University of Iowa. Contributions in Paul’s memory can be made payable to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement; and mailed to: University of Iowa Center for Advancement P.O. Box 4550 Iowa City, IA 52244-4550. This is an endowed fund to be used to support graduate students in the hearing program.
Our department is strong and vibrant because of the efforts of people like Paul. He would be proud of what has been built and its continuing impact. He is missed.
