Biography
Dr. Richard Hurtig is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa. He earned his M.A. in Linguistics from New York University and his Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University. Dr. Hurtig’s initial research focused on speech perception and language processes. His more recent work has focused on applying signal processing algorithms to the development of assistive technology for individuals facing barriers to communication and mobility impairments. Dr. Hurtig has been a part of the University of Iowa faculty since 1976 and has significantly contributed to both research and clinical practices in audiology and speech-language pathology.
