The Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic officially moved into its new home at the Health Sciences Academic Building on Aug. 4.
The clinic’s mission – to provide exceptional care for individuals with speech, language, voice, and hearing needs and to train the next generation of communication professionals – remains unchanged. Students, staff, and faculty will continue to provide exceptional care for the Iowa City community and beyond.
Kellsie Busho, director of clinical programs – audiology, said that beyond the location, it's the people who bring the clinic and its mission to life.
“Our clinical staff and faculty will continue to train future professionals with the highest standards,” Busho said. “They will ensure that our clinic is a trusted resource for individuals and families seeking high-quality speech and hearing services in our community.”

The new facilities are state-of-the-art and offer new opportunities to students, staff, and faculty. Features like observation rooms allow students to take the lead with patients while still having access to clinical guidance.
“It’s a collaborative, hands-on environment that fosters growth in ways we simply couldn’t offer before,” Busho said. “That’s a game-changer for both student training and patient care.”
Busho said she hopes to increase awareness of clinical services and strengthen relationships within the community as part of the clinic’s move.
“Our students are learning from some of the world’s leading researchers and are uniquely positioned to apply this into everyday clinical practice,” Busho said. “This experience for patient care is rare, and I look forward to expanding access to these high-quality services within our community.”
Jennifer Brodell, director of clinical programs – speech-language pathology, said that while leaving the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center was difficult, she is looking forward to providing clinical services in a modern space.
“Our services will remain of the highest quality, which we have always provided,” Brodell said. “Now, the beautiful building will match that.”
Leaving Wendell Johnson means leaving a familiar space. If you or someone you know is having difficulty locating or accessing the new clinic, follow the instructions below, or watch the helpful video produced by our clinical personnel.
How to access the clinic
The UI Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic is located at 302 S. Grand Avenue on the west side of the University of Iowa campus. Our clinic is located on the southeast side of the building, near Melrose Avenue.

When visiting the Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic, please park at Hospital Ramp 4, located across S. Grand Avenue. Exit the ramp on the east side, cross S. Grand Avenue, and turn left. Walk until you reach the side doors and follow the clinic signs to the front desk.
If you plan to arrive via public transportation, the free black-and-gold Cambus stops at the West Campus Transportation Center, less than a block away. The Iowa City Oakcrest Route 8 bus line also has a stop near the clinic.
