CSD Student Ambassadors will play a vital role in the recruitment of future CSD students and help to create a positive and welcoming environment for all Speech and Hearing Science Majors.
This position is a great networking and resume-building opportunity!
Ambassador responsibilities
In this role, students will assist with undergraduate recruitment activities. Some of the responsibilities and activities include:
- Provide tours of the HSAB Building to prospective students, alumni, and guests.
- Serve as a panelist, answering questions and sharing information about your experiences at Iowa.
- Participate in recruiting events including Hawkeye Visit Days and Admitted Students Days.
- Be a welcoming and informative host for visitors during their visit experience.
- May assist in the creation and implementation of events targeted to current students (approximately two per semester)
Participation qualifications
While the ambassador program is a volunteer opportunity, there are guidelines for participation. A successful candidate must:
- Be available on Fridays from 11:30 to 2:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters
- 2nd or 3rd year standing
- Be a Speech and Hearing Science Major with a UI GPA and Major GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to a wide variety of people.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and responsibility while being a collaborative team member.
- Speak positively yet honestly about the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and your experiences as a student.
- Speak and interact with guests in both one-on-one and large group formats.
- Work effectively with minimal supervision and structure.
- Be able to maintain personal information and records in strict confidence. This includes information gained from written, verbal, and electronic communications with current & prospective students, faculty, or staff.
