Jean Hong

Biography

Jean is an Au.D/Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa. She was initially enrolled in the Au.D. program in Fall 2022, then added the Ph.D. in Fall 2024. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from University of California, San Diego. 

Jean is part of the Pediatric Audiology Lab, where she works with her mentor, Dr. Elizabeth Walker. Her research interest focuses on understanding the development of speech perception abilities in children with hearing loss and improving their speech and language outcomes. She is also interested in taking an interdisciplinary approach in her research, utilizing her background in clinical audiology and neuroimaging (EEG and MEG). 

Outside of the lab, Jean enjoys playing golf, figure skating, and cooking.
