Title: "Morphological Development in Developmental Language Disorders"
Speaker: Elizabeth Ancel, PhD Candidate, CCC-SLP, University of Minnesota
In the process of developing language, children learn to use small units of meaning (morphemes) to construct words. Using morphemes to form grammatical utterances is an area of particular difficulty for children with developmental language disorder (DLD). In this talk, we will discuss different approaches to characterizing morphological development in DLD across languages. We will then apply this knowledge to clinical practice by investigating the morphological characteristics of a child with DLD. This talk will be accompanied by an overview of Elizabeth’s clinical supervision experience in the context of grammatical language intervention for children with DLD.
