Biography

Alison graduated from the University of Iowa M.A. SLP program a long time ago, and worked as an SLP in medical settings for many years. In 2011, she began working in the department as a clinical educator, and later went to the University of Colorado Boulder as the Director of M.A. SLP Clinical Education. Alison came back to the University of Iowa in the fall semester of 2023 as a visiting professor. Her main interests are adult acquired neurogenic communication disorders, especially aphasia and cognitive-communication challenges. She is also interested in best practices for clinical education and supervision.

Alison has enjoyed professional volunteer service in state and national organizations. She is a past president of the Iowa Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a past member of the Iowa speech-language pathology and audiology licensure board, a past member of the Board of Directors/Vice President for Planning for the American Speech Language Hearing Association, past president of the National Council of State Boards of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and past Chair of the ASHA Committee on Leadership Cultivation.
